Case Study: Wharf Kitchen

As part of the branding of their retail outlet in Canary Wharf, our client, Wharf Kitchen required internal and external steel cladding to the premises.

Having already undertaken Stainless Steel manufacturing, powder coated cladding installations and structural steel strengthening works, we were engaged to undertake this project.

The client and architect specified an “aged steel” finish – an upward trend in the retail sector. This provided challenges in overcoming the weight of the steel to be clad to a timber structure especially as it was also specified that no fixings should be visible.

Our solution was to design the installation so that the structure was interlinked and floor mounted, with domed rivets concealing any fixings, whilst maintaining a genuine and aesthetically pleasing industrial steel appearance. Window panels were clad with steel strips to give the look of crittall panels, reducing costs to the client for replacement windows. Dining shelves and bar stools completed the setup.

Despite working to very tight timescales that required working evening and weekends to deliver a demanding and evolving project, our client was happy with the solution which met their brand requirements. The quality of our work led to them requesting additional shop fittings (skirtings, staircase, tables and chairs were retrofitted with steel additions) which were manufactured and installed in similar fashion.
