Case Study: West Heath School

West Heath School had 2 external fire escapes, with handrails set to the industry standard height of 1100mm. They had an issue however with students jumping over the handrails, presenting a Health & Safety issue. The school contacted us advising that they needed the handrails increased to a height of 2000mm and the addition of some form of protection to stop students from jumping over the handrails.

We attended then school and surveyed the fire escapes in order to produced AutoCAD drawings that incorporated our proposed solution for edge protection. Following approval of the drawings by the client, we set to work manufacturing and installing the additions in a two week period during the school holidays to minimise disruptions.

Summary of work undertaken:

Designing and manufacture of additional guarding that met with Health & Safety requirements.
Fitting our additions to the existing fire escapes without compromising the integrity of the structures.
Install new panelling to two curved landings requiring rolling to fit.

Ensure the additions were in keeping with the existing fire escape so the over all effect was aesthetically pleasing.

In the summer of 2018 K&G Engineering undertook some work at West Heath School in Sevenoaks. This work involved extending the safety fencing surrounding two fire escapes. At all times K&G acted in an extremely professional manner. They were thorough prior to the work commencing, communication was excellent. The team that carried out the work did so in a very professional way, working with our staff to ensure minimal disruption. The completed work was finished to a high standard. We would definitely use K&G Engineering again for any similar projects.
